Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes when you ask ChatGPT a question? The GPT Request Monitor makes the entire processing pipeline visible – in real time, right in your browser.
This Chrome Extension visualizes the internal pipeline that ChatGPT goes through with every conversation. From the initial classification of your query to the web search to the final answer: every step is displayed transparently. So you understand not only WHAT ChatGPT answers, but also HOW the answer is created.
What does the GPT Request Monitor show?
When you ask ChatGPT a question, your query goes through several processing stages. The GPT Request Monitor automatically detects and visualizes these stages:
Classification (Classifier)
ChatGPT first analyzes your question and decides how best to answer it. Does it need current information from the internet? Is existing knowledge sufficient? The Classifier makes this decision in fractions of a second.
Search Planning (Thinky)
When ChatGPT decides that a web search is needed, a specialized model plans the search strategy. It formulates optimal search queries to find the most relevant results. You can trace which search terms ChatGPT uses.
Web Search (Search)
ChatGPT searches the internet for current information. The monitor shows you which search results were found – including the domains and URLs of all sources.
Reading Pages (Fetch)
In some cases, ChatGPT specifically retrieves web pages to gather detailed information. This stage only appears when ChatGPT actively visits and analyzes web pages.
Creating Answer (Synthesis)
From all collected information, ChatGPT formulates the final answer. The monitor shows when this creative process begins.
Sending Answer (Streaming)
The finished answer is transmitted to you word by word. The monitor shows the streaming process in real time.
Source Overview
The GPT Request Monitor collects all web sources that ChatGPT used to answer your question. Each source is displayed with its domain and full URL. This allows you to:
- Trace where ChatGPT's information comes from
- Visit and verify the original sources yourself
- Assess the quality and reliability of the sources used
- Identify whether important sources may be missing
The sources are assigned to each pipeline stage, so you can see exactly which information was added at which step.
